Parents Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee
The Parents DEI Committee operates under the auspices of the Parents’ Association and is dedicated to promoting and advocating for increased diversity and sensitivity to differences among Gaynor school families. Stephen Gaynor School itself is a special community of children who learn differently, and this committee addresses many types of diversity within our community.
The committee hopes to serve and celebrate the many types of diversity within the Stephen Gaynor School community including: neurodiversity, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, ability, religion, sexual orientation, family composition, language, and gender identity/expression. The Parents DEI Committee works with the school’s Employee Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, which is dedicated to creating a rich environment for learning for all students.
In order to create a sense of belonging throughout the parent body, the Parents DEI committee hosts regular “Breakfast My Way” events allowing members of the parent community to share their diverse breakfast traditions with one another. Dr. Andrew Solomon, author of best-seller Far From the Tree, and Jacqueline Woodson, author of Brown Girl Dreaming, are some of the guest speakers that the PA’s Diversity Committee and Stephen Gaynor School have hosted.
