Recent alumni return to Gaynor

The Office of Alumni Relations, Placement Office, Student Advocacy Coordinator and teachers in the Blue Cluster got together to host a Grad Get-Together for the class of 2018 on November 1. Alumni from the Class of 2018 came back from schools throughout the city from York Prep to Brooklyn Friends.

The alumni enjoyed pizza, said hello to their former classmates and caught up with their Gaynor teachers. After getting up to speed on each other’s lives, the group discussed their positive experiences at their new schools so far, including joining Model UN and starting their own clubs. Most importantly, the alumni shared how they have been advocating for themselves to get the accommodations they need for their learning differences in their new school environments. One alumna talked about asking for extra time when taking exams and another pointed out that she switched her language class to sign language because it worked more to her strengths.

The alumni also spoke to current students, giving advice like, “Always remember to try your best and ask for help when you need it.” We look forward to continuing to hear about all of the great things that these alumni will accomplish.
