Celebrating the Performing Arts with Something Extra

Stephen Gaynor School recognizes the importance of performing arts education for our students, and for the past three years students have attended special Performing Arts Assemblies in the spring. This year’s assembly, held on March 13, was the very first to be held in the new Performing Arts Center. Students were wowed by the vocal stylings of Yale’s all-female a cappella group, Something Extra. The group was started in the mid-1970s, and as Ms. Sortino said with a smile, “They have been performing for over 40 years, just not the same group that is here before you today.” The group performed a selection of songs from Lorde’s “Royals” to Elton John’s “Your Song” to a rousing medley of Disney favorites.
